Speaker 0 00:00:00 Welcome back my glorious tribe. We are still on hiatus, but you know, we couldn't leave you without some culturally relevant content to get you through your week. So I'm sharing another great author interview about another great book. That would be another great addition to your child's personal library. Grandma had his ice cream is written by Jawan Smith, and it's a great read numbers. Counting and colors are covered in this adorable story recommended for children ages zero through six. Enjoy the interview and we'll see you back soon. Speaker 0 00:00:43 Hey, just like meet fans, Michelle here with another and our meta offer series. We have a great author to tell you about today to want Smith is here and she is going to talk to us about grandma Hattie's ice cream page a lot. How are you? Hi, thanks for having me. I'm so excited to be here. Of course, of course. So I always want to know, how did you come to write this book? This is, this is the, I know this is a very personal book for you. I know that, um, you, this, this book holds a special place in your heart. So I want to know about how you came to write this book. So grandma had, he is actually my great-grandmother. And so when I was little, she used to make this homemade ice cream. It was the best ice cream ever. And so he has all these books that teach you how to count teacher accounts. Speaker 0 00:01:36 And I'm like, you know what? We can use grandma Hattie as a way to teach people how to count. And so that's how I ended up with grandma. Had he just from, you know, thinking about my grandmother and the ice cream cheese, I love that. Like, I always love when books are real. When, because when books are real, they come across different. Like, you know, you, you love them because there's an authenticity to them that like, you know, prepackage, you know, books just don't seem to have. So the book is about counting. Can you tell us a little bit about the, the book itself? Yes. So in the book, grandma had the teachers and the little girl, our Brie, which is my little cousin. So she's a real person as well. So grandma had, he teaches how to count with ice cream. So each page she's learned a different note. Speaker 0 00:02:24 Each scoop of ice cream have a different flavor and that flavor correlates to a color. So you're not only earning numbers, you're learning colors or flavors. We have different fruits and veggies and candies in it. So you're learning multiple different things with this one book. I love that, you know, just like me, it's all about educating the babies and that's why we do this. And when we find one book that can hit different multiple, uh, lessons, I absolutely love it. You seem like a very busy person. We were talking before we started. What else are you like besides grandma Hattie's ice cream? What else are you working on? What what's going on with you? Well, I also have my other goods, the car he goes to college, which is really doing well, is, you know, talking about the college visit experience, which is huge now because college has been challenging through the pandemic, but I'm also doing motivational speaking skills sessions. Speaker 0 00:03:19 So teaching, you know, about budgeting, basic hygiene and dining etiquette, social and emotional etiquette. So I'm doing all of that. Um, so just anything I can try to do to help empower our youth and our families. So that's kinda what keeps me moving around. Love it. Now, a lot of our people who watch our videos might not be familiar with your story. Um, but I, you know, I know because I know you personally, that you would be becoming an author, um, was not your first career. Um, and all the things you just mentioned, motivational speaking, and, uh, the promotional dinner, all the things that you do, these all came out of actually the beginning of, of, of writing or deciding to take a passion of yours and really push forward with it, to see what you could do with it. What would your advice be to someone who is looking to do something different? Speaker 0 00:04:15 Um, how would they get started? Just do it. That's the basic gist, just do it. I wear where my little Nike had all the time and I'll tell her people just do it. If it keeps you up at night, then you need to try to move forward. I felt like I was the mother at my job. I had to move. So I tell people, start putting that plan together. What does it look like? And one big thing that a lot of people get stuck on is not wanting to collaborate and partner with people. Collaboration, partnering, and networking is key to success, builds your network, put your plans together and just do it. We have so many people come on and that just do it mantra over and over again. Just, just do it. Don't don't think about it. If it moves you, you need to move in that spirit and just do it. Speaker 0 00:05:07 And so I love when people, because I think it's, it is 100% the best device that somebody can give. You just have to do it, do on where can our readers find a copies of your book? They can get them off my website, Joanne smith.com. And of course you can get them on Amazon, walmart.com, target.com, Barnes and noble. But if you get off my website, you'll get an autograph copy. If you get the grandma had his cover book, you'll also get a pack of crayons. So that only comes directly if you get it off my website. Um, and we also do great bulk rates for, um, you know, organizations in schools that want to get the book because it's a great interactive, and you can find a link to Dhawan's book, grandma Hattie's ice cream, as well as a car. He goes to college on the, just like me pick section of our website. You go there, click just like me picks, and there'll be a picture of the books. And it'll take you right to where you can buy, um, where you can buy a copy for your personal at-home library. You want, thank you so much for coming to us and talking to us about your great books and all the things that you're doing. Everybody. Thank you so much for watching.
